About Elaine
Elaine Seavey
I was born in Minnesota. While married with four children, I earned a Master’s Degree in Art. While teaching 700 students weekly at a school in Wisconsin, I frequently submitted articles regarding our more unique projects to a National monthly magazine for art educators. All of my articles were published.
In 1979, the family grown, my husband and I retired from our jobs at a younger than usual age. We sold our property in Minnesota. Then, with a pickup truck, fishing boat mounted atop, and towing an Airstream travel trailer, Rodger and I began a full-time RV lifestyle.
We traveled across the United States, Canada and Mexico for the next 25 years. I kept a detailed journal during those years, and I am now finally finding time to share our adventures through my books. Hoping to keep our experiences more unified, I have chosen to write about one area at a time, regardless of the year.
In the first book of the “Maverick Series”…Canadian Summers, I wrote about the summers we spent traveling in Canada. Most summers were spent in British Columbia. We also spent time in other provinces, including a trip across eastern Canada to Nova Scotia.
My second book, Meanderings in the West, is about our travels up and down the Pacific Coast, and other points of interest in the western states. It also includes three separate trips into the interior of Mexico.
In my third book, Southwest Adventures, I go on to write about the many winters we spent traveling with our RV in the southwestern states, mainly in Arizona. These were our “mountain biking” years, and much of the book talks about various “sights and sites” we discovered while riding our bikes off the beaten track. The book also covers a section about Navajo country in Northern Arizona and Utah.
Exploring the Southeast is the fourth book in the five-book “Maverick Series.” This book shares our travel adventures in the Southeastern states. Five winters were spent on an island off the Southwest coast of Florida. There we explored waterways deep in the Ten Thousand Island area, and remote, white sand beaches in the Gulf of Mexico. Each outing brought surprises and new discoveries. Also included are stories of interesting stops all across Texas, as well as in many other Southeastern states.
The fifth and final book in the “Maverick Series,” The Strait Years, tells about the years we spent living on the shores of the Strait of Juan de Fuca, on Washington’s Olympic Peninsula. Here we enjoyed exploring this beautiful area, and many water related activities. Much time was spent cruising among the islands in US and Canadian waters with a thirty-foot cabin cruiser named the Maverick…mooring in remote little bays, enjoying seaside villages, and living off the land and sea…all in a setting of magnificent mountain scenery will bring you more stories of our travel adventures and our maverick lifestyle.
Our home-base is now in Benson, Arizona, but Rodger and I still enjoy traveling whenever possible. Check the home page for postings on our latest journey.
